ABOUT HILLEL
Welcome to the Hillel Foundation at Eastern Michigan University where Jewish campus life begins. Our mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish
undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish People and the world. We do this by exploring what makes us all
uniquely Jewish and universally human in a welcoming, pluralistic environment. Students initiate and lead the many meaningful Jewish
experiences that make up Jewish campus life at EMU. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunities to engage in Jewish culture
and tradition, Tzedek/Social Justice/Community Service, social events, Alternative Spring Break trips, Taglit Birthright Israel trips, leadership
opportunities and more!
Student Advisory Board:
This body of students gets together for monthly meetings to assist in creating meaningful programs and a enrich the fabric of Jewish campus life.
All students are welcome to volunteer to serve in a leadership role or on one of the many committees to keep Hillel at EMU vibrant and
welcoming. Committees include:
Tzedek/Social Action
Jewish Life and Learning
Social Events
Communication (campus visibility and photography/scrapbooking)
Staff:
Clara Silver, Executive Director Clara is thrilled to be the
Executive Director of Hillel at EMU. Originally from Amherst, New York, she graduated from Wells College and spent three undergraduate semesters at New York University.
Her degree is in Theater and Dance, which is useful for her as the Cantorial Soloist for Temple Beth Israel of Jackson, Michigan. Her true loves are supporting EMU students
in building a vibrant Jewish campus community, and warm, fudgy forms of chocolate. Clara is proud to lead Hillel at EMU as an independent foundation affiliated with
Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life in Washington, D.C. She looks forward to seeing even more Jewish students at EMU in the years to come. Having sworn
off caffeine, alcohol, or any other sort of damaging substance, she now depends on the energy of the Jewish students at EMU to keep things lively. She loves to study
and explore Judaism but also loves an irreverent joke (in good taste, of course). Introduce yourself when you see Clara around campus - you can't miss the red hair.
